Speaking in the debate on the sale and use of fireworks, Ms Jarvis supported calls to reduce the noise limits for F2 and F3 fireworks to 90 decibels, and to enhance the legislation governing the use and sale of fireworks.

Liberal Democrat MP for Eastleigh, Liz Jarvis said:

“Hundreds of people from Eastleigh have contacted me with their concerns about the noise of fireworks, which is rapidly becoming a larger issue not just limited to New Year’s Eve and Bonfire Night. The impact of very loud fireworks and misuse of fireworks on those with living with PTSD, dementia or other mental health challenges can be distressing, as well as causing huge stress for pets and putting additional pressure on our emergency services on some of the busiest nights of the year.

“Ultimately, it is our emergency services, our NHS, our vets and our animal rescue centres that have to pick up the pieces. A proper review of the fireworks legislation is long overdue”.
